Working With Your Doll Baby to Get Out of a Funk

Working With Your Doll Baby to Get Out of a Funk

Friends, this is a response I gave a customer that you might find useful regarding Poppets/Doll Babies.

Note: Name of customer changed.

The Question

Hi Rowan - I hope you’re well. I’m in a funk and not sure what oil I need. Feeling stuck in some ways, bad habits. Not feeling super motivated. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My Answer

Hi, Miriam. Thank you for messaging me with this and trusting me with it. I do have a couple ideas.

The first one is this, although it might not be spot-on. But it's a good thing to check:

If there is a part of you — a young and enthusiastic part of you — whose preferences and ideas might have been put on the back burner, this is often the cause for feeling stuck.

Because this little child part of us is usually full of enthusiasm, and she's the part that makes us excited to get up in the morning.

So this will sound crazy, but I highly recommend it. I would say to your little self:

“Hey, I might have been setting aside some of your preferences and making you feel like you don't matter. Has this happened?”

Then listen.

And this is the part that could sound crazy.

Using your “little self voice,” let yourself answer yourself.

You will probably be very surprised at how easily her voice tells you what's going on and what she wants. And it could be something very, very simple. It may even seem dumb.

But I'll give you an example.

The Peach Milkshake

A while ago my “little self” wanted a peach milkshake.

But I had been putting that feeling aside because, “I shouldn't be having a peach milkshake.”

I had also been taking things very, very seriously and not having much enjoyment in my life.

So one day I tried this. I talked to her and asked her if there was anything she needed that would help “us” feel better.

She immediately said — in my little girl voice:

“I want a peach milkshake.”

So I said back — in my adult voice:

“Okay. We can go get a little one after we get these things done. Okay?”

And she got really excited.

And she was excited not so much because she was going to get a peach milkshake, but because I cared what she wanted.

When we repeatedly disregard what a little part of ourselves wants, we start to lose hope. Our little self can sabotage us and misbehave and cause us problems just to try to get attention.

This includes indulging in bad habits.

So love, this is a simple idea and, of course, it is only a beginning. But it is worth trying.

Working With a Doll Baby

Another thing I've done lately is add a line of Poppets, and I will tell you, they make this exercise even more potent because these doll babies are so damn cute that you can't help giving them attention.

I'll show you a picture of my own doll baby.

Pippi doll baby

I resisted buying her for months because I was concerned that I would get her dirty.

I am a very boots-on-the-ground person, and in my line of work — mostly broom making — I get really dirty. And I didn't want her to get dirty.

But finally I bought her for myself.

And she's kind of like a little version of me, and she makes me think twice about how I treat my little self.

You Don't Have to Have One of Mine

I do have these doll babies available, and I won't say they're cheap.

But you don't even have to have one of my doll babies.

You could just find a doll baby that represents your “little self.”

And start working with her.

Start giving her what she needs and wants.

I think you will be very pleased and delighted by how you start cooperating with yourself and finding your motivation.

It's a very good beginning place.

I hope this helps, love. My heart goes with you.

Sincerely,
Rowan
